Google seems to take a very long time to recognise and update the backlinks, whereas the new MSN beta search shows backlinks much more rapidly - I wonder if anyone else has noticed this? Or perhaps Google is taking into account new backlinks, but simply not displaying them as rapidly?...

i found the last point (5) interesting - using :www.domain.com to find more accurate list of links.

not sure I agree with this. the colon appears to do nothing. same as just searching for the "www.domain.com". returns all instances that page address is found on body copy, not source code.

interesting to do this: do the regular "link:www.domain.com" search. note one of the linking page urls listed. now do the search as recommended here, ":www.domain.com -site:www.domain.com". THEN search within the results for "inurl:" plus a the domain of the page you noted from the "link:" search.

I did the above and found that the recommended ":www.domain.com -site:www.domain.com" search didn't include the backlink page I had found through standard "link:" search.
