I am the admin of the PRGoogleBar project. The progect which adds the Pagerank to the Googlebar for Mozilla and Firefox.

I am investigating this at the moment. Once I confirm that its been changed I'll start cracking it again.

Thanks for listing the toolbar updates. It opened my eyes on a little and clears up (somewhat) a couple of things in July. These two updates:

version 2.0.113 : 2004-07-30 (which I have right now)

Thanks for listing the toolbar updates. It opened my eyes on a little and clears up (somewhat) a couple of things in July. These two updates:

version 2.0.112 : 2004-07-15
version 2.0.113 : 2004-07-30 (which I have right now)

seem to coincide with the backlink changes that occured back in July. I noticed and reported on one of those on July 4th. Not too many people noticed it. The update on or around the 21st was a bigger update which got noticed more.

I am with you Olivier, that Google is doing something with the checksum now -- they have to. But they cannot allow it to be so easily cracked. How they go about that is beyond me.

There is also wide-spread posting in forums going on about website homepages reporting PR0 while their internal pages have not shown any change in PR. People are pulling their hair out trying to figure out what it is all about. I believe that this is connected to whatever Google is changing in the toolbar.

The release of the crack into the public domain spawned the porting of that code into various programming languages -- C, PASCAL, PHP, JavaScript to name a few. There are also some desktop applications that I have come across that use this code (not yours, I know).

This opens the door on a whole lot more than web-based apps. It could get out of hand with other apps such as toolbars, link analysis software, etc. Google is not going to sit back and allow this to happen I am afraid.

The code was cracked in june? Hate to tell ya this guy, but its been cracked twice, and we had checkers long before june (of this year anyways).

PageRank has not updated since it was cracked? Uhhh, I want some of what you are smoking!...

Would be nice if the PR-Update comes back with the next Backlink-Update :) The switch to the new algorithm would be a nice solution in order to kill all the pr-scripts out there. But how long will it last. I wonder why Google did not warn respectively penalize some sites for such an abuse....
